Nantucket and more

It's been a wild couple of weeks in Eastern Massachusetts. The blizzard dumped over 2 feet of snow, left my area without power for 5 days and left a lot of devistation in her wake. I lost many trees in the back yard and two beautiful Christmas type pines in the front. Thankfully none of the trees fell on the house. This past week end we got another 6 inches of snow. I love snow but I have had enough for the year. On to the stitching, which is why we are all here. I went to the framers just before the blizzard and picked up Nantucket. I love this piece. The frame is beautiful. Reminds me of drift wood. It isn't as blue as the picture would suggest. It's a gray blue color. Goes perfectly with the design. I have had many questions about the color of the house, yes I changed the color. I didn't have 2 of the called for color and changed it to King Mackerel by WDW and instead of the Barrel Cactus I used DMC 927. I like the changes. Here are three of my MA pieces in the mudroom. I will just keep adding pieces that remind me of New England. This is Blue Violets by BBD. I love BBD designs and have done many of them but I hate this piece. The violets aren't blue. They are all muddy purple in color. The floss they used for the stems and the vine are so close in color that you can't see a difference. The house is just plain homely. I am so unhappy with this design. This is Red Cottage by PSS. This piece I am crazy for. It's done on 36 ct v strawflower and is about 6x6 in size. I think that I will make it into a pillow. Not 100% sure yet. As I stitched this past week end while the snow fell, I had these beautiful daffodils to look at to remind me that Spring will be coming. Until next time ..... Happy Stitching! Deborah

Remember the movie Field of Dreams. "If you build it they will come". Well maybe if you stitch spring it will come. Just hoping. CJ in OK

Thanks for the heads up on the BBD design. I, too, love their designs but I'm not a violet color person so I was a bit worried about that one. I think I'll skip it. I do love that red cottage and the Nantucket piece. The frame looks wonderful with the project. In the Pacific NW, we do have 2 daffodils blooming. I think it is a bit too early and I'm worried that they will get zapped!

I absolutely love your stitched and framed Nantucket. It's beautiful and the frame is just perfect.
I love Red Cottage also.
What a shame you are not enjoying the BBD piece.

LOVE the frame choice you made for Nantucket!! Having just finished mine this week, I am wondering what my frame will look like. Love the color changes you made too :) The positive on the snow is more stitching?? I know, it is so beautiful after the spring, summer and fall seasons have passed, then winter is here! yeah! Then, not so much!! I know many in the NE and most are not in favor of any more snow. Love the PSS piece, I cant wait to stitch it also.

Love Nantucket!
The frame is perfect for it.
Sorry about the Violet piece, it didn't catch my eye either when it came out, and I usually like their designs.
Great collection on your wall!

Your NE wall is looking very nice! Congrats! I caved and purchased Red House also, and look forward to stitching it--without the over one small house. It will be fine without it. Hugs!

Nantucket is lovely....in your stitching and in a place. New England February... always means snow...stay safe and warm.

I love that Nantucket project! Might have to consider that one ... likewise the Violets : )

Oh my gosh! I sure hope you managed to stay warm during your power outage!!! Been there, done that -- the longest we were without power was 7 days, the usual is 5. So yes, I sympathize. Trees too -- so hard! I hope insurance will help pay for the cleanup.

I love your Nantucket -- that frame is perfect! I was going to say driftwood -- so beautiful! Love your mudroom pieces! Interesting about Blue Violets. I wonder if the dye lots have something to do with the colors?? I absolutely love Red Cottage too! I love your idea of making it into a pillow. I'm planning on stitching it someday. Lovely Daffodils!

Deborah -- So glad you made it through the blizzard OK. I totally understand about losing trees and being without power -- at least the worst is behind you.

LOVE your Nantucket piece. The stitching is beautiful and the frame is perfect. They look so well together in your mudroom.

I hear you about the BBD Violet piece. I was so excited to get this one and the colors are OK but not what I had in mind. I haven't started mine yet and may have to change out the colors before I do. Your PSS is stunning -- glad you are enjoying working on that one.

Have a good week. Spring is coming:)))

I'm so sorry to hear you lost your power and some trees during that wicked storm.

Your Nantucket piece looks wonderful. I'm sorry to hear you're so disappointed with the BBD Violets piece. It's a wonderful design... but the colors do sound awful.

So sorry to read about all your downed trees, Deborah--that must be so sad to look out and no longer see them. My sister lives in Boston and you obviously had the same storms--lots of sore backs in your area, I'm sure!!

I LOVE your Nantucket framed piece--just perfect. And thank you for your color conversions--I like yours much better than the original.

Love the PSS piece and I hope you begin to like the BBD piece better as you finish it. Hang in there--it may end up being nicer than you're thinking!

I LOVE your Nantucket sampler...in fact I love all the pieces in your mudroom. They are just beautiful! The New England theme is really a great idea. I was sorry to read about your trees...we have lost one over the years and I still miss it...LOL...Hopefully Spring will come quickly to your area and the snow will only be a memory. In the meantime...Happy Stitching.

Sorry for all the winter problems, but those daffies sure are a great reminder of what's to come. Your Nantucket is really nice, and love the framing you chose! The cottage is sweet, too.

Love your Nantucket! It is gorgeous! And all your samplers grouped together on the wall look stunning!
You are a stitching dynamo, I bet you don't gaze upon those Daffodils for long! :)

Lovely stitchy stuff! If you have had enough snow, feel free to send it on this way as we have had very little.

Nantucket and that frame is gorgeous! I can see why you are tired of snow - that is a lot of the white stuff!

Beautiful framing and stitching. I love the PSS red house. So pretty.

I , too, ordered the Violets Blue Sampler along with the recommended flosses. I was dumbfounded...colors for the violets were dull and agree that the threads for the border are nearly identical. What a disappointment. Am going to do the sampler but will choose brighter colors.

Although the blizzard wasn't as bad where I am on Long Island, it did afford me the opportunity to organize some future projects (cross-stitch and crochet). Your samplers are beautiful. I do agree with your opinion of the violets though. Maybe you could change to more vibrant colors.

Your daffodils are so bright and cheery, i hope your snow soon goes away.

Nantucket is fabulous!! When I stitch this one, I will be referring back to your color changes! Red Cottage is lovely ~ another one on the list! I love BBD, but can see your points about this pattern ~ I think I will play around with colors should I get around to stitching this one.
Enjoy your sunny daffodils ~ and here's to spring!

Nantucket looks great. Perfect frame as usual. I love the idea of a decorated mudroom they're usually just so blah. Thanks for the heads up on the BBD.

I'm ready for spring too. We only got a foot from that storm system but we also had 2 feet at Christmas along with several smaller additions since.

That is the perfect frame for Nantucket! I know exactly what colour it is since I used the same frame on one of my finishes. It looks fabulous!

You've done a great job on Red Cottage. I think it would make a gorgeous pillow!

I'm also stitching a BBD that I'm not too fond of. Mine is Awake the Dawning Day. I'm not crazy about either the house or the colours but I'm stitching it for a friend who chose it. It's the first time I haven't enjoyed one of their designs.

Your frame choice sets the design off wonderfully well. Love your other WIPs too.

Love your Nantucket piece...Love everything Nantucket! And also your Baby It's Cold Outside. I just commented on another blog about how many red houses are out there now. I like them!

I have the Violet's Blue pattern, but have ordered the silk conversion threads from Attic Needlework, which haven't come yet. I think I'm worn out with some of the drabs that BBD often uses. And is it me, or do the photos always look totally different from the actual threads. Not complaining...I still love most of their projects...but am in the mood to venture outside the box I guess.
Hope you like your project more as you go.

Happy stitching.

P.S. Glad to hear New England's storm for this weekend isn't as bad as forecast...at least I hope that is correct.

HI, I love the Nantucket piece. Can you please tell me what is the name of the piece on the far right in the mud room? I really like that one too.

Nantucket looks beautiful in its frame, such a great choice. The daffodils really do summon in Spring don't they? I can't wait for the warmer weather!
Best wishes and happy stitching.
